Cleaning up the Shelves

Ok, it isn't an understatement when I say our house seriously lacks storage! The only closet not in a bedroom is our pantry in the kitchen. Whoever designed this house must not have much stuff. I must say that we have been very VERY blessed with people who have passed on alot of their unneeded things to our foster care efforts. I have been putting things wherever I can, but 2 days ago, someone donated a fantastic dresser so I was able to move some things around. I also did some reorganizing and purging. Here are the befores and afters of the bookshelf and the metal shelves in the closet of the will be foster children's room.

We used this bookshelf in Parker's room holding diapers, wipes and things, and now we needed it for storage. I don't have a before picture of the books as they were all over the house, but now we have a nicely organized bookshelf!

Still lots of junk but there is space to add more things and alot of the trash is gone :)

Room number TWO!

Ok, first, I should have said that I got this idea from my fab cousin Michelle at SavingSomeGreen, I totally copied her (Thanks for the idea!!) So here we go..

This is my son's room (like the decor doesn't give it away) and despite his lack of ability to make a mess in here, we have one!

Our biggest task? Sorting out all of the clothes that are too small or too warm for our steamy Texas Spring. This was heartbreaking. Here I am trying to make deals and I am pulling out clothes that have never been worn! I also pulled out the bumper a few days before and it was time to remove the mobile (since he pulled it down!) we also sold our glider at the garage sale so we pulled the crib over to center it on the wall, then had to move the pictures.

Organizing our "dumping zone"

About 4 months ago, for pure convience, we moved our desk out of the office and into our living area. This has made it much easier to keep an eye on little ones while getting some things done on the computer. However, the desk is the first big flat surface as you come in the front door. It quickly became the dumping ground for everything...mail, coupons, bills, and I am notorius for my sticky notes. So as you can imagine, we are constantly battling this beast!

I came across OrgJunkie and got some inspiration to clean up this area!

Part way through - OrgJunkie says to pull everything out before organizing, I was amazed at how much junk this helped me find and be able to toss! Great idea!

And some after pictures - the yellow bag is of borrowed books so that will be gone soon :)




Now lets see how long we can keep it this way!!
